It is has always been my dream to travel to Santorini. But you know how dreams are. They’re usually perfect down to the finest details. For years I have been admiring gorgeous photos of this very island and dreaming of the day I would be here. I have to admit that a small part of me was prepared to be disappointed that Santorini would not be as beautiful in reality as it has been in my dreams. Well, sometimes dreams come true. And sometimes when dreams come true, they’re even more beautiful than you ever imagined they could be.
This island is incredible. My vocabulary is not extensive enough to describe the overwhelming breathtaking beauty found here. Thursday Michal and I drove from Karterados, the town we are staying in, to the capital of Fira. We then hiked several hours from Fira to Oia. We hiked along the Caldera’s cliffs and up and over Mavro Vouno (Black Mountain). There were times we were so high up that we were literally walking in the clouds. The smell of oregano growing wildly on the side of the cliffs pleasantly scented the hot, dry air.
As I’ve already said, I do not have the words to express the beautiful scenery that surrounded us along this walk. Instead, I will share my photos with you and maybe you’ll have better luck coming up with the words that I lack. Enjoy the beauty of Santorini!!
